Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL

Get Your Life Back, Without Surgery.

Harness the Power of Your Body to Heal Itself

Since it can be used to treat musculoskeletal conditions like tendinopathy, ligament/tendon tears and arthritis, Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL treatment solutions are common in active people, from professional athletes to weekend warriors.

Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL applies to a variety of similar, but different, preparations made from blood platelets. Platelets are little packets of growth factors and other natural healing molecules that help clot your blood. If you get a paper cut, platelets not only stop the bleeding but also release healing growth factors to help get local cells on the right course to heal the skin.

At Cutting Edge, we are proud to provide a wide array of Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL treatment options to our patients and they can rest well in knowing that we have spent a decade perfecting every aspect of these procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Regenexx® SCP (super concentrated platelets) and Regenexx® PL (platelet lysate)?

Your blood naturally contains platelets, which are excellent sources of proteins called growth factors. When your body is injured, growth factors promote healing by triggering new tissue growth, including the production of blood vessels, collagen, muscles, and connective tissues.

Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL contain a higher concentration of platelets than normal plasma. Created in the office by drawing your blood, it separates the platelets and then concentrates them.

With the technology available at Cutting Edge Integrative Pain Centers, your Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL are more concentrated than typical super concentrated platelet and platelet lysate treatments.

Whereas other forms of super concentrated platelet and platelet lysate treatments result in 5-10 times the natural concentration of platelets, Dr. Landrum can achieve a level that’s up to 20 times higher than average. This level of platelets is essential for achieving optimal results.

Dr. Landrum injects your Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL using ultrasound to precisely place the needle in the damaged tissues.

Which conditions can Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL treat?

Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL can help heal many types of musculoskeletal problems including:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tendonitis and bursitis
  • Injuries to cartilage, tendons, and muscles
  • Bone fractures
  • Spinal disc conditions

In addition to stimulating the production of tissues needed to repair these conditions, Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL fluoroscopic, ultrasound-guided injections also reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

How Is Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL Made?

Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL is made by centrifuging (separating by spinning in a centrifuge machine) whole blood and concentrating the platelets in the blood serum. The idea is that more of a good thing—the platelets—is better than less.

Among medical practices that make Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL, about 95% make it in a push-button, automatic centrifuge. The advantage to making Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL this way is that it’s a simple solution for the medical practice. The physician only needs to know where to place the sample and where the “On” button is.

However, there are disadvantages to this automated, bedside approach. The Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL produced by this method is “one size fits all.” If a patient is more or less hydrated, for example, it is not accounted for in
these machines. Depending on the sample’s water content, there can be fluctuation in the area where the platelets are located in the centrifuged blood. Based simply on how much water the patient has consumed, the platelet concentration produced on one day will be different from that produced on another day.

Another way Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL can be made is in a lab.

Can a Better Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL Be Created in a Lab?

Absolutely. As noted above, most physicians who provide Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL treatments use a simple automated  machine. In our clinical experience, a lab in the medical practice can accomplish much more than a bedside centrifuge: A lab can adjust the processing to the unique properties of the patient sample. For instance:

• A lab can achieve much higher concentrations of platelets

• A lab can customize various types of Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL to address the specific needs of a patient

Because it is made in a lab, the Regenexx® SCP and Regenexx® PL created by skilled lab technicians is more pure and customizable. They can separate and concentrate the good components from the whole blood and get rid of the undesirable cells.

Automated centrifuges (those push-button machines) typically concentrate 2–5 times the normal platelet count. Regenexx® SCP labs use a more advanced process that creates super-concentrated platelets (SCP). This can yield platelets at 10 to 40 times the normal number. This allows for a customizable solution specific to each patient’s needs. At Cutting Edge Integrative Pain Centers, we have seen that Regenexx® SCP has a positive effect on the stem cells that are responsible for repairing tissue.
